Burn Permits Guidelines

The following guidelines for issuing burning permits will apply again this year.  As we enter the warmer months and the dry season, the conditions change abruptly from day to day.  This may cause us to restrict burning even more.  Please check the Smokey Bear sign at the public safety building for the class day or call the on-duty person at 324-8969.

The Rules are as follows:

  • Permits will not be issued without knowing the Class day and/or weather forecast, this is announced at 9 AM.
  • Permits will only be issued on Class 1 & 2 days.
  • All safety requirements will be followed during the burn.
  • Permits will only be valid from 5 PM to Midnight, unless it is raining.
  • Permits will only be issued for one day at a time.
  • We may cancel burning permits at any time due to changing weather conditions.
  • We have the right to inspect any fire that we are asked to permit.
  • Seasonal campfire permits my be obtained for the year.
  • Alfred Fire Department reserves the right to cancel any burn permit due to changing weather conditions.  If we are in doubt of the conditions or the permit holder, we may refuse to issue the permit.
